What Do you think of the racist comments in youtube, facebook, wordpress, yahoo answers?

This is the dark side of the democratization of internet where everybody can say whatever they want? Is it an exercise of freedom speech?, so, it doesn't really matters?

Public Comments

  1. Anonymity, not freedom. I doubt many people would say that in person.
  2. It's great, because it truly represents freedom. People should be allowed to express themselves however they want. Now, people who run websites, forums & blogs who don't condone that sort of speech will take measures to block or filter those comments. And that's how it should be. Speech censorship should be done by individuals, but not by government mandates.
  3. people that are cowardly racists love to say things on here and then hide behind the mask of the internet---it makes me sick---oh well!
  4. I've noticed that also. ALOT of blks are using racial slurs and such against whites. Why isn't this being reported in the media? If we were the ones doing it the media would be going wild.
  5. matter, not really.you have the choice of coming or going on all web sites.i think a lot of people feel this way.i also believe that this political season has put race relations back 20 years.but the democrats brought this all on themselves.obama and hillary both were race baiting.
  6. racist idiots and kkk should be banned from all websites..from forums to chat rooms..its an insult to have them ..
  7. it is part freedom and part anonymity. People feel free to be hateful, intolerant and ignorant when it doesn't affect them in real life, and some people just ARE hateful, intolerant and ignorant....and i'm sure they make their parents proud!
  8. Maybe we'll be in trouble if we say something against our own government, if Y/A can delete our answers, i'm pretty sure, spies can detect us.
  9. it is a part of free speech therefore i chose to exercise the other freedom that we have and that is the freedom to not listen to or read what they have to say but at the same time i would be the first in line to defend their right to say what they want because if we let the government regulate them then guess what we are next
  10. Freedom of speech is really misunderstood concept. People whine about it if they're in a restaurant or something, and they get kicked out for profanity. They say its a "violation of their rights" but you GIVE UP CERTAIN RIGHTS by entering buildings. You accept their services and in turn, give up some rights and money. The same applies to websites. You can be shut up if you say something bad online, too. You've chosen to use their service, and if you ignore their terms, you can be deleted. Simple as that. It's not a matter of what rights you have out in the wilderness, alone, on property you own. You can basically do whatever you want then. But, in a public place not owned by you, you cant do certain things. I'm not going to explain such an elementary concept anymore. Now, what is MY opinion? Say what you want, but be prepared for flames. You cant complain in the least if you say something like that and get repercussions by your peers. If you say that, you give up your right to be protected from similar things happening to you. So. It's like internet karma. Being able to do things dosent necessarily mean you should do them. What you would do in public, do on the internet. Not that I'd be saying this in public. I'd be listening intently, but not responding in the least. The internet is empowering, because you can express yourself. Its just... you have to be responsible.
  11. racism is a double edged sword. in humour it helps us look at ourselves, being white i find us being the new minority,as a american in my own country, i feel im the new minority in my own country, but all of us being different is what makes us get stronger, if we can just all live for the day and what we have as strengths use to make this a better place, but we got to learn, move on and and remember what we learned to make this a better place for our children. all our races screwed up and not just once. lets all move on to the next page, tomarrow.blacks, whites, reds, browns, pinks, mixed, greens and animals. unite or there will be NO TOMARROW, there will never be ONE RACE, ONE RELIGON, if there is this would be a pretty boring dumb lame ass place to live no matter where it is, PEACEOUT
  12. It's freedom of speech. I read them and say "What the fuck ever, stupid ppl". Just roll my eyes and go to the next comment. But me, I think racist ppl are ignorant. We're all equal. =]
  13. I don't make much of it. I think a lot of it is just "acting out." That is to say, I think a lot of people are just acting out some tough guy fantasy (it's pretty easy to be a bully when you're hiding behind a computer screen). I think it's kind of like girls being really wild and flirtatious online w/ people - because they can act out fantasies and it's safe -- no danger involved - but in real life many of them wouldn't act that way. It's the same w/ cyber racism - they can say things - but they feel safe - because they know in real life, they'd be beat down by somebody if they were running off at the mouth like that, lol
