Making a Shag Rag Rug without crocheting?

- Hi you can't knit a rug that way. You need to look up rug-hooking & you need to cut, long, rectangular strips made out of heavier cotton. You might be able to find a rug-hooking class but if you can't then just look for a book on it.
- You could try getting very large mesh squares or circles from the local craft store - like the ones used for latch hooking. Then take 6-8 inch strips of whatever fabric combination you want, and loop the strips through the bottom of the holes and tie each strip in a half knot. Do that with all the holes and you'll wind up with something similar.
- Go to a craft store. Get the proper size of the material that they use for rug hooking. Get the color fabric that you want the rug to be and start by putting each strip through the whole and tie a knot
- try some burlap..........and strips of fabric......place about 2inches apart and tie but not a tight knot.........
- cut your rags into 3 or 4 inch strips and buy the grid fabric for a hook latch rug. You can find this at any fabric store.
